My first fundraiser was playing chess outside the Art Gallery downtown Vancouver. This is about 25 mins walk from my house. This was also one of my favourite places to play chess. We had a particularly hot summer this year 2012 and being outside was the best place to play. I also played chess with friends from the community that I know like Joe, James and Omar. It was common to see regular chess players around that I knew.
The best part of playing outside the Art Gallery was also the energy of people passing by that were enjoying the city. Many tourists from around the world also meant that I met people who played chess and who definately showed a huge respect for the game. Again many people showed support for my fundriasing to the World Youth Chess Championship and it was good to hear them wish me luck!
